Recently, Google announced that it will be shutting down two of its smart home device products, Dropcam and Nest Secure, in 2024.
Dropcam is a home security camera product that was acquired by Nest, a company owned by Google, in 2014. Nest Secure is a home security system that was released in 2017.
According to Google, both of these products will continue to function normally until the shutdown date, and customers will be able to receive support and warranty coverage until that time. However, after the shutdown date, these products will no longer receive software updates or security patches, and customers will no longer be able to access their data stored on Google servers.
Google is offering customers a refund for their Nest Secure system if they choose to return it, and it is also offering a free replacement product to those who have purchased a Nest Detect sensor, which is a component of the Nest Secure system.
This announcement comes as part of Google’s efforts to streamline its product offerings and focus on more profitable areas of its business.
