When the PS5 finally starts to gain traction, Sony feels the need to cultivate a professional image.
The viewpoint, which has been rejected up until now owing to a lack of the original model, appears to be taking shape and may even be realized soon.
A ‘pro-jet’ that appears?
In any case, the knowledgeable Tom Henderson released a report indicating that a pro version of the PS5 will eventually be released. The Insider even claims that Sony might start the marketing campaign as early as the 2024 holiday season, per people close to the project.
Sony would consequently adhere to the principle established with the PS4 of providing a more powerful version at every level. But, the potential appeared less important given that a PS5 already came with a lot of features and delivered a good performance.
Yet, very few console games now make use of advanced technologies like ray tracing, and we are eagerly awaiting the results of Unreal Engine 5. In this situation, the creation of a PS5 Pro could be justified… assuming Sony can this time successfully satisfy demand.
The following concepts
In addition to the PS5 Pro, a revamp of the original model with a detachable Blu-ray player is also anticipated. Other than an E3 2023 that seems to be quite sparse, this next version of the PS5 should be released at the end of this year and will be the focus of a presentation by Sony in a few months.
This new model “is simply the beginning of the surprises that will emerge on this generation of PlayStation systems,” according to one of Tom Henderson’s sources. With relation to generation, recent speculations have already raised the possibility of a PS6. Hence, a 2028 release date for the PS5’s younger sister would be consistent with the release dates of its predecessors.
Sony has high expectations for its gaming division as a result and specifically targets the sale of 30 million PS5s in the 2023 fiscal year. The introduction of a Pro model the next year may or may not occur, depending on whether the new model with a detachable drive anticipated at the end of the year contributes to the manufacturer’s optimistic expectations.
